Is LASIK Safe?
LASIK is one of the safest procedures performed today, with a risk of complications under 1%. In the past, LASIK was not recommended for people much older than their early forties, but this age limit for LASIK may be exceeded, as long as you meet other criteria appropriate to the procedure. New technologies and improvements in the LASIK procedure make it available to and safer for many people who did not qualify for previous methods.
NASA has approved LASIK for its astronauts, and LASIK has been approved for emergency first responders, pilots, police officers, and sports professionals. The reliability of the procedure to produce long-lasting improvements in vision, which are uncompromised even by high impact sports, speaks favorably about the safety of LASIK.
