Advantages of Visian ICL™ scheduled 8/20/09

For many years, glasses and contact lenses were the only two ways to get perfect vision. When people started to get LASIK, it added another option, but some people who want to improve their vision are not candidates for it. Over the last four years, many people have discovered that implantable collamer lenses, made by Visian, are a good compromise when they don’t want to wear glasses or contacts and are not able, or do not want to get LASIK.

As a surgically implanted lens, Visian ICL™ is a permanent solution to wearing corrective lenses. The ICL is placed behind the iris and in front of the eye’s natural lens. With the ICL, many of the drawbacks of wearing contact lenses are not there, such as the discomfort of contacts drying out or getting something in them.

The procedure itself can be done in an outpatient setting in as little as ten minutes. Recovery may be as short as one day and you will notice how well you can see immediately. The incision required to fit the ICL is extremely small and is placed on the corner of the cornea.

One of the benefits of using the ICL is that it includes a UV blocker. It has been known for some time that increased exposure to the sun’s rays on your eyes can also increase problems, such as cataracts. The built in UV blocker prevents harmful UVA and UVB rays from the eye, which may prevent eye disorders.

While Visian ICL™ is made to be a permanent solution, if a complication arises or a rare side effect occurs, the lens may be removed. This should be a great relief to those who are concerned about the “permanency” of this procedure.
